On a cool and blustery morning Yorkshire were asked to bat first and lost James Wharton in the third over but had already posted 36 on the scoreboard. Matthew Waite joined Will Luxton and they added 104 in 76 deliveries before the former was caught at long on for 44 from 38 balls with four fours. Will continued his fine early form making 72 from only 46 balls with 8×4 and a six as Yorkshire posted 175-5.
The University also got out of the blocks quickly and had made 54 in only 31 balls before losing their first wicket – Timby caught at mid off for 41 from only 20 balls. Chaqtai joined Nick Keast (who featured for Yorkshire earlier in the week) but Keast had to retire hurt and his brother Tim took his place.
The score had advanced to 102 before the second wicket was lost but wickets fell at regular intervals thereafter and they finished 25 short at 150-8; trialist Hishaam Khan taking 3-18 and James Wharton 3-28.
Timby and Chaqtai posted 50 from 36 balls before the latter was lbw for 33 from 26 balls and there were consistent scores from Timby 31 from 24, Dorsey 38 not out from 35 and Watson 30 not out from 26 as they totalled 145-3.
James Wharton made 41 from only 24 with 8 fours and a six before he was lbw and Will Luxton 44 from 34 with a four and 3 sixes before he was stumped but these were the only losses as Yorkshire won by 8 wickets with 9 balls to spare; Jonny Tattersall 15 not out at a run a ball and Matthew Waite 44 not out from 38 with 2 fours and 2 sixes.
