Yorkshire’s Harry Duke said:

“It was amazing to be out there with Rooty, who is such a great player. I felt like I learnt quite a lot today by spending that time in the middle with him.
“He gave me that confidence to keep playing the way I was, even though it was quite a tough situation.
“It was just unfortunate I got out in the way I did, trying to manoeuvre the field and going away from what I’d done so well.
“I’ve probably not had the scores I wanted this year, so it was nice to spend some time in the middle there.
“It’s a case of the lads who are in now spending as much time out in the middle tomorrow and trying to come out of this game only one point behind them. That’s a big goal of ours now.
“We have the depth in our batting line-up to do it.”

6.28pm – Close Yorkshire end the day on 356-8 from 118 overs. Thompson 15 and Patterson 6. We are 210 behind in our first innings, heading into tomorrow. The follow-on target is 417. Root outstanding for 147.

6.05pm WICKET Root caught at slip for a superb 147 off Parkinson, and Yorkshire are 331-8 after 112 overs.

5.59pm WICKET Bess trapped lbw by Bailey, 17. Yorkshire are 331-7 with 6.3 overs remaining in the day. 417 follow-on target.

5.36pm A third batting bonus point is secured as Yorkshire reach 301-6 in the 106th over. 12 more to bowl this evening after this. Root 135 and Bess 7. Looks like we are going to finish with bonus points Yorkshire 4 and Lancashire 5.

5.26pm The Diamonds have won, by 39 runs. Emma Marlow, on debut, Linsey Smith and Beth Langston all finished with two wickets as the Lightning, chasing 178, finished on 138-7.

5.13pm WICKET Duke bowled trying to scoop Parkinson for 40. Yorkshire fall to 288-6 in the 101st over. That ends an excellent 154 stand with Root, who is 129 not out.

4.46pm Yorkshire have advanced to 273-5 in the 96th over. Rott 122 and Duke 35. 22 overs remaining after this.

4.10pm Lancashire have taken the new ball immediately after tea, with Root surviving a caught behind appeal from Bailey with the first ball of the session. 251-5 with Root 108 and Duke 29.

3.52pm The Diamonds have finished on a superb 177-5 from their 20 overs at Loughborough. Lauren Winfield-Hill top-scored with 96 and Hollie Armitage 40.

Tea Report Joe Root posted his maiden Roses hundred during a wicketless third afternoon at Headingley to significantly boost Yorkshire’s hopes of a draw against Lancashire.

Root’s 37th first-class century came off 150 balls with 10 fours and has been achieved against an attack including his England colleague Jimmy Anderson. Yorkshire have reached tea at 250-5 after 86 overs, a deficit of 315.

Yorkshire are replying to Lancashire’s first-innings 566-9 declared and were thrown into some trouble by the loss of three morning wickets to leave them at 134-5 and then, at lunch, 171-5.

Root has found a willing and able partner in Harry Duke, the pair sharing 117 unbroken for the sixth wicket. Duke has reached an unbeaten 29.

Root has driven and cut with confidence against the seamers and has swept and reverse swept the leg-spin of Matt Parkinson, and he will begin the evening on 108.

3.46pm – Tea Yorkshire bat through the session unbeaten, moving to 251-5 from 86 overs. Root 108 and Duke 29. These two have shared 117, and the deficit is 315.

3.41pm Second batting point achieved, Yorkshire 250-5 in the 85th. Root 107 and Duke 29. Penultimate over of the afternoon.

3.27pm HUNDRED!! Root gets to his maiden Roses century off 150 balls with 10×4s. Fabulous knock. Yorkshire are 242-5 in the 81st over. What a player.

3.18pm Super stuff from Root and Duke, who have shared an unbroken century stand to take the score to 232-5 in the 78th over. Root 98 and Duke 26.

3.01pm Yorkshire are 226-5 in the 74th over and Root has 90 of them alongside Duke’s 26. The partnership has reached 92.

Lightning v Diamonds.

2.08pm The Diamonds have won the toss and elected to bat in the Charlotte Edwards Cup opener against Lightning at Loughborough.

2.08pm Yorkshire 200-5 in the 60th over, and a first batting point has been achieved.

2.02pm Root (63) and Duke (15) have shared 53 and counting for the sixth wicket as Yorkshire approach a first batting point at 187-5. Anderson and Parkinson taking up the Lancashire attack.

1.53pm Root has just caressed Anderson through the covers for four in the early stages of the afternoon, moving to 61 out of 182-5.

Lunch Report Yorkshire, replying to Lancashire’s first-innings 556-9 declared, lost three third morning wickets to reach lunch at 171-5 at Headingley.

Tom Loten (6), George Hill (25) and Harry Brook (41) all fell as Lancashire chipped away at the wickets in this LV= Insurance County Championship fixture.

Yorkshire started the day on 53-2, with Tom Bailey, Jimmy Anderson and Matt Parkinson all striking.

Unbeaten Joe Root, 51 not out, and Brook shared a run-a-ball 66 for the fifth wicket in eye-catching fashion, the latter the dominant force.

Brook played some gorgeous strokes in a 33-ball innings which indicated his standing as the current Division One leading run-scorer with 676.

Unfortunately, this was his first innings of the season without a half-century, meaning he missed out on equalling the Yorkshire record of seven fifties in a row, previously achieved by Geoff Boycott, Darren Lehmann and Anthony McGrath.

Lancashire struck first when a looping Bailey delivery dipped on nightwatchman Loten and trapped him lbw, leaving the score at 62-3 in the 27th over – the fifth of the morning.

Hill then miscued a pull at an Anderson short ball to Dane Vilas running in from mid-wicket – 68-4 after 30.

Brook then hit nine fours and drove handsomely before being bowled by a Parkinson leg-spinner which he was looking to work to leg having advanced down the pitch. That left Yorkshire at 134-5 after 41 overs.

Root reached his second fifty in as many innings off 73 balls during the final over of the morning, the 52nd of the innings, while Harry Duke reached 11.

1.02pm – Lunch Yorkshire advance from 53-2 overnight to 171-5 as they reply to Lancashire 566-9 declared. Root 51 and Duke 11.

12.56pm Closing stages of the morning. Yorkshire have advanced to 167-5 after 50 overs. Root 47, Duke 11.

12.22pm WICKET Brook bowled by Parkinson for 41. Advanced down the pitch, initially looked like it was stumped. But, no, bowled. Yorkshire 134-5 after 41.

12.14pm Brook (31) and Root (24) have shared 54 for the first wicket to take Yorkshire to 122-4. Lancashire, who have just brought Parkinson on, have erred in the last half hour to 40 minutes.

12.04pm Brook has settled quickly at the crease and has 25 to Root’s 17. Some lovely shots so far. 109-4.

11.50am A couple of eye-catching driven boundaries in the last five minutes for Brook against Balderson and Root against Wood. Yorkshire 85-4.

11.33am WICKET Hill miscues a pull at an Anderson short ball and is caught by Vilas running in from mid-wicket, 25. Yorkshire now 68-4 after 30. Brook joins Root at the crease.

11.18am WICKET Loten has been trapped lbw by Bailey for 6. Yorkshire now 62-3.

11am We’re underway at Headingley, with Yorkshire 53-2. Ah, make that 57-2 as Hill drives Bailey down the ground. A bit uppish, but lovely shot.

10.14am Let’s have a look around the grounds before we get going.

Diamonds.

Good morning from Headingley, where it is a glorious start to the day.

We have had a lot of dry weather of late, but it’s been pretty cold hasn’t it. This feels like a proper summer’s day.

A batting day, fingers crossed!

Yorkshire will begin day three of this Roses clash on 53-2 in reply to Lancashire’s 566-9 declared.

George Hill and nightwatchman Tom Loten are at the crease.

Yorkshire fought hard with the ball to limit the damage during yesterday’s afternoon session. But today is clearly the key day in this fixture. If Yorkshire bat well, they will have a very good chance of a draw.

The pitch seems to be holding up well, though Lancashire’s double centurion Keaton Jennings last night said that there is still enough help on offer for the bowlers.

Big day today for Yorkshire Cricket, with the Northern Diamonds also in action to start their regional summer. They face Lightning at Loughborough in the Charlotte Edwards Cup (2.30pm).

There will be streams available for both games.

The stream for this Roses fixture is available via the Match Centre tab at the top of the page. As usual, we get going at 11am.
