LIVE BLOG: YORKSHIRE V WARWICKSHIRE, LVCC, DAY 3

— 14 September 2021

2.31pm Play has been abandoned for the day. Yorkshire will begin day four on 50-3 chasing 224.

2.12pm Division One leaders Nottinghamshire will require 250 to beat Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

1.51pm The rain continues to fall here at Emerald Headingley. It would now be a surprise of we saw any play today.

Lancashire, meanwhile, wrapped up that win by 10 wickets over Somerset at Taunton.

They are also now on at Hampshire, who are 174-9 in their second innings leading Notts by 245.

12.23pm Lancashire are on the verge of victory against Somerset at Taunton. They are 8-0 chasing 32, and they would move top of the in play Division One table on 54.5 points, two clear of Notts.

That picture will clearly change again come the end of tomorrow at the latest.

Raining pretty heavily again here.

11.57am The umpires have called for lunch to be taken as normal here at 12.30pm.

Lunch Report Persistent rain prevented any play before lunch on day three of the penultimate round LV= Insurance County Championship clash between Yorkshire and Warwickshire at Emerald Headingley.

Rain was still falling when, just before 12pm, umpires Nigel Llong and Neil Mallender opted to take lunch at the normal time of 12.30pm.

The rain is not as heavy now as it was earlier in the morning.

When play does resume, Yorkshire will be 50-3 in their second innings, chasing a target of 224 to win. Gary Ballance will be unbeaten on 21.

11.42am No change in the picture at Emerald Headingley – still raining.

11.05am The rain continues to fall here at Headingley, but they have started at Taunton where Lancashire are four wickets from victory against Somerset, who are 250-6 and 33 behind in their second innings.

There is no play before lunch at the Ageas Bowl, where Hampshire are facing Notts, owing to a wet outfield.

10.02am Just a bit of an update with Steve Patterson having left the field following an aborted over late in Warwickshire’s second innings. It seems as though it was a hamstring tweak for the skipper.

10am The rain has really started to come down in the last five minutes. It had been steady fine rain for the last hour or so, but now it is really heavy.

Good morning from Emerald Headingley.

It is raining pretty hard, unfortunately, ahead of the third day against Warwickshire.

The forecasted bad weather has arrived, and the suggestion is that it will stick with us for at least the next few hours as well. Fingers crossed, we can get a start later on this afternoon.

When play does begin, Yorkshire will be 50-3 in their second-innings pursuit of 224.

Gary Ballance and, we assume, Harry Brook will be at the crease.

The assumption comes after Dawid Malan fell to the last ball of day two last night, to a superb one-handed catch from Tim Bresnan at first slip off Liam Norwell.

To repeat what has been said many times this week, this penultimate round fixture is must win for both sides’ title aspirations. The winner will be in the thick of a final week scramble for silverware. The loser would face an almost impossible task.

Even a second-placed finish for a Bob Willis Trophy final berth may be beyond them given that Notts and Hampshire and Lancashire as well could all be within striking distance of glory.

We will keep you up to date as the day progresses here, and there will be a live stream available as usual when play does get underway.

Enjoy the day.
