— 2 May 2021

LIVE STREAM: It is available through the Match Centre page on this website.

Yorkshire captain Steve Patterson said:

“I’m not sure I can explain that. It was certainly a roller-coaster.
“Looking back on it, we’re delighted to win because we haven’t played anywhere near the cricket we’re capable of. But what it has shown, the same as last week and the week before, is our team spirit and attitude.
“The way we keep fighting our way back into games despite how we start is a testament to the desire in that dressing room.
“At no point until it got down to probably four runs did I feel we were losing that game. I always felt we’d create one more opportunity.”

Lunch Report Yorkshire need three wickets to win their LV= Insurance County Championship match at Emerald Headingley, with Northamptonshire requiring 46 more runs.

This engrossing and nervy Group Three fixture has reached lunch on day four with Northants, chasing 220, at 174-4 from 57 overs.

Northants started the day on 94-4 from 27.1 overs. David Willey, Steve Patterson and Duanne Olivier have all taken wickets.

The morning session also included controversy.

In the day’s 11th over, the 39th of the innings, Tom Taylor edged Willey – on one – low to Tom Kohler-Cadmore at first slip, with the catch being claimed.

However, the batsman stood his ground and was given the benefit of the doubt by umpires Nick Cook and David Millns (136-5).

Thankfully, four balls later, Taylor was trapped lbw by Patterson without further addition as Northants fell to 141-6.

The initial breakthrough had gone to Willey, who had Luke Procter caught behind for 27, while the other not out batsman overnight – Saif Zaib – was caught at slip by Kohler-Cadmore off Olivier as the score slipped to 146-7.

Wayne Parnell and Gareth Berg have since taken the target below 50 and will begin the afternoon on 16 and 14 respectively.

Berg was dropped on four by Jonny Tattersall behind the stumps off Olivier.

Good morning from Emerald Headingley.

The sun is shining ahead of day four of this Championship clash with Northamptonshire.

It is a game which hangs firmly in the balance, with both sides being able to make an argument for holding the advantage heading into the final day.

Northants are chasing 220 and closed on 94-4, needing 126 more.

The truth is that whoever holds the edge, it is only that – a slender advantage.

Luke Procter has 20 and Saif Zaib 1. The latter took 40 minutes to get off the mark last night before the bad light interrupted us.

Northants struck three times in the first 70 minutes of play yesterday as Yorkshire’s second innings slipped from 43-3 overnight to 86-6. If Yorkshire can replicate that kind of start to the day, you would have to fancy them to wrap up a third win in four games.

Both sides have displayed frailties in this game, but it has made for an absorbing contest nevertheless.

You can once again follow it on the live stream. We get underway at 11am. Enjoy, and try not to get too nervous!
