Half-centuries from Matthew Revis and Fin Bean were the feature innings as Yorkshire made 244-9 on the first day of their friendly against Warwickshire in Cape Town today.
The two-day affair against the Bears at Claremont CC sees the two sides bat for a day apiece.
Yorkshire got first bite at the cherry having won the toss, and Revis top-scored with 56 retired not out and opener Bean made 53.
In the 81.2 overs sent down by Warwickshire, Rob Yates claimed three late wickets with his off-spinners. Fellow spinner Danny Briggs took two wickets, as did seamer George Garrett.
Bean set Yorkshire on their way with five fours and a six in 133 balls, while Revis, who batted at five, hit eight boundaries in his unbeaten 80-ball knock.
Jonny Tattersall captained the side, as he did for the closing stages of 2022. It may be a role he is required to fulfil again early this summer should Shan Masood be unavailable through April and into May because of international duty with Pakistan. Will Fraine and Dom Bess have also captained on tour so far.
Wicketkeeper batter Tattersall made 34, one run better than George Hill’s earlier contribution. Both faced 50 balls in the South African sunshine.
Yorkshire will return with the ball tomorrow.
