2nd XI report: Lancashire vs Yorkshire - Day three

— 14 September 2022

Scorecard

Resuming at 33-4 Lancashire added a further 23 before losing their fifth wicket when Shetty “chopped on” for 31 giving Matthew Fisher his third wicket. However in his fifth over of the day Fisher produced a triple wicket maiden having Mahmood caught at second slip by James Wharton, Carney caught behind and bowling O’Sullivan – reducing our hosts to 61-8.

Josh Sullivan took the final two wickets (2-2) as Lancashire were dismissed for 71 – Matthew Fisher finishing with the remarkable figures of 11-8-9-6.

Wharton and Yash Vagadia added 40 for the first wicket before the latter was lbw for 18 and at lunch Yorkshire were 61-1, leading by 180 – Wharton 30 not out and Will Luxton 13 not out.

Shortly after lunch Will Luxton was stumped for 17 but Wharton completed his half century from 120 balls and was finally caught at long off for 71 from 140 balls with 9 fours and a six. This brought two 16 year old debutants together, Noah Kelly and Will Bennison, and despite a couple of dropped chances they added 40 to take the tea score to 199-4. They extended this after tea to 60 before Kelly was caught at second slip for 36. Bennison was caught behind soon after for 30 and when Matthew Fisher was caught at point the declaration came at 226-7, leaving Lancashire 346 to win.

Ben Cliff had Fonseca lbw but that was the only success before bad light called a halt to proceedings with seven overs remaining.
