If yesterday’s weather was stifling, today’s was almost brutal for everyone concerned and again credit must go to all players, officials and support staff for their efforts in such extreme conditions.
Scriven and Yorkshire old boy, Ed Barnes resumed Leicestershire’s innings and from 283-6 they lost only the wicket of Barnes before lunch – he was lbw to Sullivan for 20 giving Sullivan his third “5 for” of the season. Lunch 365-7 with Scriven 45 not out from 97 balls and Davis 29 no from 61.
Shortly after lunch Scriven completed his half century from 101 balls but he fell soon after well caught at deep square by Alex Cree from the bowling of Joel Gunn. Griffiths was caught at the wicket off Clarke Doughney for 18 and Leicestershire were 419-9. Davis completed his 50 from 87 balls and was last man out for 85 (caught at deep mid wicket off Vagadia) however along with Bowley they added 78 as they closed at 497.
Due to the extreme conditions it was agreed to take a slightly extended tea break. Finlay Bean and Harry Allinson opened up and had added 54 when Bean was well caught at cover for 32. Gary Ballance joined Allinson and at 5pm with Yorkshire 64-1 as play was called off for the day.
