2nd XI report: Yorkshire vs Essex - Day Three

— 7 July 2022

Starting day three, Yorkshire were trailing by 234 and 85 short of avoiding the follow on and lost Harry Sullivan, bowled for 20, in the 3rd over of the day. Clarke Doughney joined Harry Duke in a partnership of 40 before he was lbw for 10.

Duke had extended his overnight 64 to 89 when he was caught at 2nd slip and Ben Cliff was lbw the following ball leaving Yorkshire at 331-9 still 38 short of the follow on. It was unsure if Essex would enforce the follow on but this decision was taken out of their hands as Jack Shutt and Charlie McMurran survived the extra half hour at lunch to take the total to 437 before Shutt was lbw for a career best 44 made from 82 balls – McMurran also made a career best 45 not out.

Browne and Roelofsen saw Essex through to tea at 74 without loss from 15 overs however soon after the break Harry Sullivan had Roelofsen caught at mid wicket by Harry Allinson for 51 made from 50 balls with 8 fours. Browne posted his 50 from 85 balls and made 60 before he was caught behind by Harry Duke from the bowling of McMurran. The same pairing took care of Khushi for 15 and Essex closed on 160-3.
