2nd XI report: Yorkshire vs Essex - Day Two

Essex resumed at 399-6. However, Yorkshire had four changes to the previous days line up as Wharton, Luxton, Fraine and Loten departed for First Eleven duties – in came Harry Allinson, Yash Vagadia, Jack Shutt and Joel Gunn.

The score had been extended to 433 before Mc Kenna was caught behind for 58 made from 91 deliveries with 10 fours.

Dwivedi joined Gorontla and the latter passed 150 from only 146 balls with 23 fours and 2 sixes. Dwivedi made 25 before he was lbw to Harry Sullivan and shortly before lunch Essex declared on 518-8 as Gorontla reached the milestone of his double century.
Yorkshire had 2 overs to face prior to lunch and these were safely navigated at 9-0.

Harry Allinson departed in the ninth over, caught at mid wicket for 13 and this brought the returning Gary Balance to the crease – his first seven scoring shots were all boundary fours with his placement being impeccable. He and Finlay Bean (fresh from his 441) added 95 in 101 balls before Bean was caught at deep square leg for 74 from 79 balls with 14 fours. Ballance reached 50 from 45 balls and made 61 befoe being caught at backward point and Yorkshire took tea at 162-3.

Yash Vagadia was lbw for 18 and Noah Priestley 16 (caught at mid wicket) but Harry Duke was still there – he was joined by Harry Sullivan and they remained unbeaten at the close on 284-5; Sullivan 18 not out from 84 balls and Duke 64 not out from 93 balls with 6 fours.
