— 1 July 2022

Match Centre

Any hope Yorkshire had of pushing for victory was ultimately spoiled by bad light bringing an end to a remarkable four days at 5.03pm.

Yorkshire had resumed at 676-4 with Finlay Bean on a little matter of 365 not out. It took only 5.4 overs to overtake the “all time” highest Second Eleven Championship total (previously 697) extending this to 814-7 declared at lunch.

Tom Loten was caught at mid wicket for 32 but not before Bean had reached 400 from 495 balls with 47 fours. He had recorded 441 runs from 517 deliveries with 52 fours and 3 sixes when he was bowled having batted for 7 minutes short of 12 hours!

Nottinghamshire started their second innings trailing by 280 and Ben Cliff had Martindale caught by Harry Sullivan from their first ball. However Joey Evison and Montgomery added 98 before the former was caught behind from the bowling of Loten for 41.

Montgomery was joined by keeper Schadendorf and, at tea, they had taken the score to 167-2, Montgomery 67 not out having reached 50 from 65 balls. Immediately after the tea break Schadendorf went from his 35 not out to 97 not out in the space of only 50 balls.

At this juncture Montgomery was bowled by Ed Moulton for 95 having added 160 at almost a run a ball with Schadendorf. The very next ball saw Harrison caught behind and shortly after completing his century Schadendorf was bowled by Sullivan for 104.

Nottinghamshire were 269-5 still 11 behind and 22 overs remaining, but due to the light “hands were shaken” with the match drawn.

Yorkshire – 15 points
Nottinghamshire – 14 points
