Nottinghamshire resumed at 305-5 and had added 30 before skipper, James Wharton, struck just before the new ball was due to remove Harrison for 73 made from 118 balls with 11 fours.

The new ball appeared to go to the boundary even quicker and it was 13 overs old before Jack Hartley had Ben Hutton caught at cover by Harry Allinson for 55 (77 balls; 9×4) and our hosts reached lunch at 464-7.

Post lunch they extended their score to 533 before Harry Sullivan struck twice in an over to remove Singh for 63 (53 balls;9×4,1×6) caught by Josh Priestley and Phillips lbw for nought and he soon achieved his “5 for” bowling King who had made 88 from 119 balls with 11 fours. Nottinghamshire all out for 534.

James Wharton and Finlay Bean opened the batting and 19 overs were bowled before tea and the pair had taken Yorkshire’s score to 97 without loss, Bean 31 not out and Wharton 62 not out, his 50 came from 44 balls including 9 fours.

This proved to be just an appetiser as they both produced immaculate cover drives and handsome punches off the back foot and at the close of play they remained unbeaten and Yorkshire closed on 286 without loss.

Bean reached his 50 from 80 balls and despite outscoring Wharton for a while it was the latter who reached three figures first from 121 balls with 14 fours followed shortly after by Bean 135 balls with 18 fours. At the close Wharton 125 not out, Bean 151 not out (182 balls; 24×4 and a six).
