2nd XI report: Durham vs Yorkshire - Day Three

— 23 June 2022

Match Centre

Yorkshire started day three leading by 195 runs with the last pair at the wicket and extended this to 212 before Ben Cliff was caught at second slip.

Due to first eleven call ups and Test match duties six players were/are due to leave before, during and after today’s play with, hopefully, replacements arriving.

Drissell and McKinney added 64 for the first wicket before trialist, Beswick Kapala struck twice shortly before lunch to leave Durham at 77-2. Immediately after lunch Cliff had Crawley caught behind and another trialist, Ed Moulton bowled Mackintosh for 13 and our hosts were 107-4.

Crawley and Doneathy added 55 before Kapala removed the former, lbw, for 38 and tea was taken at 183-5, Durham still trailing by 29 with Doneathy 39 not out and Whitfield 8 not out.

After tea the two not out batters took Durham into the lead before acting skipper, James Wharton had Whitfield caught behind for 39 and in the penultimate over of the day Cliff had Killeen taken at short leg.

A long, boiling hot day finished with Durham leading by 45 with three wickets remaining. Credit must be given to all of Yorkshire’s bowlers for their efforts in such hot conditions.
